For all martial arts practised in the Dojo (training area or school), good manners and respect must be shown to the instructors and to each other. The following are the basic Dojo Rules.
When entering or leaving the training area, stop and preform a slight bow into the area.
Dress in an appropriate manner and when possible in a karate-gi. No football tops should be worn.
Finger and toenails should be short and clean. Jewellry should not be worn when in training, for your protection and that of your fellow students.
When called to order, form a line with the highest grade on the right hand side. When all students are the same grade, then the eldest student will stand on the right hand side. No talking in line.
NO fighting or sparring will take place except under the direction of the instructor.
Parents are free to watch the lesson but are requested not to speak or distract the students during a lesson
When facing a partner for sparring or to apply a technique, bow to each other at the beginning and at the end.
You must apply for license four weeks after joining.
Whilst waiting for the class to being, students should take this opporunity to either practice or loosen up etc, QUIETLY. No running about or games are acceptable.
Try and go to the toilet before the class. However, if you have to go, ask for permission.
If you are late for the class, kneel down and wait for the instructor to allow you to join the class.
If you have a question, raise your hand to attract attention.
If you have any injuries o illnesses that may affect your training, tell the instructor before the class.
Give respect to your partners whilst training. They are trusting you not to hurt them, whilst you are practising your techniques. If you make a mistake and do make contact with your partner - say sorry.
This is not a complete list of rules and others may be brought to the attention of the students at any time.
While these rules may seem formal, they help install a sense of respect and discipline necassary in a 'sport', which may, if taken lightly, be dangerous.
Any student behaving in a disrespectful or dangerous manner will be asked to leave the floor. Loss of temper or bad language will not be tolerated for any reason. Any dispute should be brought to the attention of the Instructor.
